the ceremony of MICHELIN Guide Guangzhou 2019
The MICHELIN Guide Guangzhou 2019 is launched today, and in this second edition of the Guide, the first two star restaurant makes an appearance, along with three new one star establishments – bringing the total to eleven.
the first two star restaurant, Jiang by Chef Fei
Making its debut in the inaugural edition of the Guide last year with one star, Jiang by Chef Fei now receives a two star distinction – the first in the city. In the one star category, there are three new additions to the 2019 selection:Famous Cuisine, Imperial Treasure Fine Chinese Cuisine and Song.
In addition to the starred establishments the 2019 selection includes 28 Bib Gourmand and 40 Plate restaurants.
Awarded chefs for Bib Gourmand
Awarded chefs for Michelin Plate
Michelin Guide seems to have different opinions about Cantonese cuisine of Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Also, the guide is tolerant with Cantonese cuisine in Shanghai. Anyway, the first two-star restaurant was finally born in Guangzhou. At least the guide is becoming thicker. Let’s wait and see whether Cantonese pay for the “guide”.
The interesting thing is, during the one-hour ceremony, almost 40 minutes are spent on the Bib Gourmand and Plate restaurants, which means killing time. Another noticeable thing is neither Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of the MICHELIN Guides nor Bruno de Feraudy, the president of Michelin (China) is present for this big event. Maybe they are both on vacation. All these symbols make people believe this edition of Michelin Guide Guangzhou is not so progressive.
